Traipse through lost, hidden forests and hear the light twinkling through the verdant leaves. The Lore, as these sounds are termed, also stretches through time and bears artifacts of backward movement. With the Walrus Audio Lore Reverse Soundscape Generator on your pedalboard, you can craft the soundtrack to fantasy realms you thought could only live in your head. This pedal features five programs running through two DSP chips, running in series and featuring their own analog feedback path — now you can capture the elusive sonic creatures inhabiting your noggin. Built upon a healthy serving of reverb and reverse delay, the Lore offers time stretching, pitch shifting, and vast ambience so you can mastermind your next enchanted adventuring soundtrack.
Thanks to its two analog feedback paths, the Lore arms users with a delectable quintet of programs that each benefit from a unique blend of feedback both affected and unaffected. What’s more, both feedback paths intertwine and react to each other in an organic way — offering up fairy dust paths just waiting for your experimental, knob-twiddling fingers.
Program 1: Reverse delay into reverse reverb
With this section, you’ll dive straight into organically focused interaction of the feedback paths. Reverse, re-reverse, and reverse again, your signal will bounce throughout the confines of its abode, ramping up space and ambience all the while. In this mode, use the X knob to control the extent of reverse on delay trails. Sweetwater tip: this mode sounds exceptional with massive, eerie sounding chord structures.
Program 2: Reverse delay into octave up reverb
Switch to the second program when you’re ready for reverse delay into octave up reverb. Here you’ll find “light reverb” with harmonic feedback and an expansive reverb tank creating breathy, airy ambience. While in this mode, take advantage of the Regen knob to sprinkle a little sparkling shimmer into the reverb decay. Here, the X knob controls the decay of the reverb. Using this mode for fingerpicking styles will serve you well!
Program 3: Reverse delay into octave down reverb
Here, you’ll find the “dark reverb” of the pedal with plenty of heavy filtering and harmonic distortion woven into the octave down harmonic feedback, resulting in dense murkiness. Use the Regen knob here to call in another lower octave and use the X knob to reel in that reverb decay. Or, add a little high gain or fuzz to meddle with the time-space continuum.
Program 4: Reverse reverb into forward reverb
Thanks to the dual harmonic feedback paths, you can octave up or octave down and time stretch to adjust size and character of the space. Fiddle with the Feedback knob for rich lower octaves added to the reverse reverb. Also, the Regen knob strengthens up your reverse reverb decay with an upper octave. When you want fantastical ethereal tones, drones, and pads, you’ll experience them tenfold with the mix fully wet.
Program 5: Pitch delay into pitch delay
You’ll find this program as a happy medium between a sequencer at higher delay times and a harmonizer functioning at lower delay times. With shifting input signal running up and down complementary paths, your input signal will snake into intricate harmonic patterns. Here, the X knob will serve you well for controlling the order of the fourth, fifth, and octave intervals where the pitch delay passes. This program functions excellently for rhythmic parts.
